Nevada City CA 5/11/2013

Last month we took a day trip to Nevada City, CA.  It is a very cute town full of mining history.  We strolled around, window shopping.  We ate a delicious lunch at Lefty's.  Everyone we met loved to talk about their town.  There are also some beautiful Victorian homes with cute gardens.  We've taken a few day trips to various gold-country towns, and I'd have to say Nevada City is my favorite so far.  I liked that there were several stores and a good amount of walking to be done.  The boys enjoyed the candy shop - and learned there is such a thing as "too much fudge"!!

Hand Made

I finished this sweater this past weekend and really like it.
It's a little snug so I'll try again and change the pattern up a bit.  It was fun to make and I learned a few things, too!

Feel the Love

Today I got an email from someone I don't know, but works for a customer of ours, and was probably cc'd in some message at some time which is why I was in her address book.  The subject line read:

I Love You!

At first, I was a little confused, thinking it was a virus - but when I read the signature I knew the message was meant for someone else.  I kind of thought it was funny, reflecting on how many times I've made an error in an email, or sent an email to wrong person with the same name. While I pondered this, I received another message:

...oops...
I'm sure I'd love you, too
grabbed the [wrong] email address, LOL!!!

I replied to her, thanking her and letting her know this was a good way to end the week.   She "virtually" laughed and agreed.    I let her know I appreciated the random love, and wished her a great weekend.

This made me think - with all of the complaining, subtle tattling, slight scoldings, ALL CAPS yelling, and unnecessary cc'ing that goes on in work emails, how wonderful it was to get this message!!  I'd have to say it's obvious that this made my day.  I hope it does yours!

I Love You!!

BOR-ING

Arlo:  Dad, let's play Mario...
Dad:  No, I don't really feel like it...
Arlo:  Well then let's play a boring game.
Dad:  A boring game?
Arlo:  Yeah..
Dad:  You mean a BOARD game?
Arlo:  Yes, a board game...
Dad, Mom and Wyatt all laugh...
Arlo:  Ok, that's enough guys.
...all laugh even harder...

Big Trees (A Lot of Pictures!)

Two weeks ago we journeyed to Murphys, CA and Big Trees State Park.  I would suggest clicking on the link to learn more.

Downtown Murphys has a wonderful little downtown park with a playground, picnic area and creek that kids can play in.

Grapes are everywhere!

This place is LOADED with wine tasting bars...restaurants and a sprinkling of antique shops and boutiques.

While walking around we met a great ambassador to the town who suggested where to eat, and where to take the kids on this day trip, as well as any future trips where we had more time...

First stop was Ironstone Vinyards.

Certainly the big "wow" for us was the 44 lb Crystalline Gold Leaf Specimen.
This piece was found in 1992 just 15 miles from the site of the Winery.

A bigger wow was just 15 or so miles north to the Big Trees State park.  2-3,000 year old trees are just amazing in person!

4th Of July

Due to a lack of funding, our city didn't have a fireworks show this year.  We had some sparklers left from prior years, and I think that was enough fun for the boys!
